No, not yet for bass-baritone and horn (2011)

Non, pas encore - Etienne Chevallier - David Guerrier
00:00 / 00:00

Based on Revenant by Florence Delay

Commissioned by the Chœur Britten, conducted by Nicole Corti.

Dedicated to Étienne Chevallier, voice and David Guerrier, horn

In progress - Duration : approx. 4'30

Written at the request of Nicole Corti for the thirty years of the Britten choir, this work only sets to music a few sentences taken from the third part (Revenant) of the triptych that Florence Delay wrote for this anniversary.

Each of the thirty-one prospective composers could choose the vocal formation of his choice while the instrument " accompanist " was imposed. The 1st part of the Revenante triptych was associated with the cello, the 2nd Bouquets the piano and percussion and the 3rd Revenant the trumpet or the horn.

By associating the bass baritone voice and the horn in a short work, the combination of the two sounds seemed particularly appropriate to the text.

The few sentences retained, by their universality, touch us to the depths of our being: the value, the attachment and the meaning that we give to/our life, death and mourning, memory, consolation and appeasement, what we bring to others, the existence that continues for us in the hearts of those who loved us.

There is a (varied) version of this work for solo horn under the title Épure.

He walks barefoot in the grass. He gets used to living again. He breathes.

Ho! Ho! He hears a woman sobbing. Ho! Ho!

He is alive.

Day not yet up. Walking barefoot in the grass.

The day begins.

All the spring flowers mourn her.

The day begins.

He hears laughing and running. The sky is cloudless. A little girl sings. He finally smiles.

I am the same but I am another.

Ho! Ho!

No, no, not yet. (2 times)

The day is declining. The sun approaches. Get in my boat. Not yet.

In the night, as in broad daylight.
