In 1993, the jury of the International Composition Competition of the City of Trieste in Italy, made up among others of Donatoni, Lachenmann, Alsina and Zinsstag, awarded him the First Prize for his 1st Chamber Symphony for 13 solo instruments.

Since then, he has regularly received commissions from major institutions such as Radio France, the Opéra de Saint Étienne, the Ministry of Culture (State commissions), the Hector Berlioz Festival… or even renowned conductors, Nicole Corti, Michel Piquemal, Roland Hayrabedian, Patrick Davin, Mark Foster…  or great performers, Benny Sluchin, David Guerrier, Max Bonnay, Pierre-Yves Artaud, Carlos Roqué Alsina, Françoise Kubler, Devy Erly, Guy Comentale, Christophe Roy, Marianne Piketty, Thierry Mercier, Dorian Lamotte, Sophie Deshayes…

It is joué by multiple ensembles for creations or covers such as the Klangforum Wien, the Orchester_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136Pharmonic_bad5cf58 of France 2E2M, Le Concert Impromptu, the Debussy and Béla quartets, the Aleph, Stravinsky, Court-circuit ensembles… in France and abroad (South Africa, Congo, Senegal, Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, China, Tunisia, Chile ...).

The musical writing of Bernard de Vienne, a book by Joseph Delaplace - professor at the faculty of Rennes 2 - published in March 2012 in the collection " art 8 " , Editions l'Harmattan, underlines the development of the career of this composer who is the subject of several important events : a Joint Residence at the Superior and Regional Conservatories of Lyon, where about twenty of his works were played, a commission he directed at Radio France for the Compagnie de danse Nathalie Pernette, a master class entitled Bernard de Vienne and writing for flute at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne. Recently, during a creative tour in Tunisia (Sidi Bou Saïd, Sfax and Sousse) his work Achrome for 12 strings was premiered by the Tunisian National Orchestra, conducted by the conductor and violinist Mohamed Lassoued (in the part of the show l'Etrangèreté, produced by the ensemble Le Concert Impromptu with the Franco-Tunisian singer, Alia Sellami).

After having written an opera on a short story by Ivan Tourgueniev, a work for 9 voices and percussion, commissioned by the Britten choir conducted by Nicole Corti, and a new commission from Radio France for the Maîtrise conducted by Sofi Jeannin, he performs to this day a Residence with the Ensemble Stravinsky, a structure associated with the Arsenal de Metz. In addition to the revival of his works and various cultural actions, he wrote for this ensemble a 3rd chamber symphony for guitar and eight instruments, a Trio for flute, viola and harp and a work for symphony orchestra. In addition, he wrote a 4th chamber symphony for harp and ensemble, commissioned by the Court-Circuit ensemble, a 3rd string quartet, commissioned by the CCAM de Vandoeuvre-Lès-Nancy for the Stanislas quartet. At the same time, he completed a residency at the conservatory of Saint Michel sur Orge where 9 instrumental or vocal works, intended for students and teachers, were created, including Les Modulations for piano 4 hands and Virelangue for a conservatory vocal workshop.

The CD Lembranças and Les identities remarkables , recorded by the ensemble Le Concert Impromptu and the pianist Bruno Belthoise, are the testimony of fifteen years of companionship, reflecting multiple joint projects and shows. The monographic CD Les identities remarkables was awarded 4 tuning forks by the magazine of the same name and obtained the MezzoM label.

An eclectic formation

From his country of birth, Tunisia, and his discovery of ethnomusicology, Bernard de Vienne has remained marked by all the music of the world, whose colors, rhythms, modes of play specific to various cultures and instruments, irrigate his works in depth. His training as a flautist - an instrument he still practices today as a soloist, thus giving rise to creations - gave him a pronounced taste for instrumental writing, improvisation, instrumental virtuosity, the search for poetic and unusual sounds, at the source of a moving music with constantly renewed colors.

His studies in musicology at the University of Paris VIII -validated by a Master's degree in musicology under the direction of musicologist and essayist Daniel Charles and musicologist and composer Francis Bayer- gave him the freedom of a sharp thought, an insatiable curiosity, the taste for patient and precise work, as well as a humanist open-mindedness.

At the same time as this university course, he joined the Musique Vivante ensemble directed by Diego Masson as a flautist. He worked on composition with the composer and pianist Carlos Roqué Alsina, to whom he owes an acute awareness of the shaping of musical discourse, a refinement in orchestration as well as a constantly renewed attention to harmony.

A total commitment to the service of creation

For 10 years, devoting himself mainly to his activity as a composer, he has been solicited by many institutions (National Stages, Theatres, Conservatories, etc.) , trainer and speaker (CNSM of Lyon and Paris, CRR of Lyon and Boulogne, HEM of Lausanne, Dordogne, Ajaccio, Viroflay, Levallois, Combes le Ville, St Michel sur Orge, Garges, Juvisy, Aveyron…).

Within the framework of several publications, he participates in the writing of articles on contemporary aesthetics. In 2014 : contribution to the catalog of an exhibition of the painter Firpo ; in 2012 : contribution to the catalog of the painter Folmer's exhibition in New York, London and Amsterdam; in 2011 : articles for the magazine Le Magazine des Arts ; in 2010 : the analytical point of view of a composer, analytical contribution in the biography that the violinist Alexis Galpérine dedicated to the composer Carlos Roqué Alsina, (Éditions Delatour France, 2011)_cc781905-5cde- 3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_; in 2010 : organization of the conference Alsina (CDMC and CNSM of Paris) and bibliographical article for the publisher Sugar Music. In 2016/2017, he will give a lecture on the relationship between the arts, around the figure of the painter Georges Folmer, during which his work Cinétique for cello and piano will be performed by the Court-Circuit ensemble.

A catalog for professionals and amateurs

His works (about a hundred to date) - written for all instrumental formations, from the solo instrument to the symphony orchestra and the choir - are published by Editions François Dhalmann and Lemoine. These are aimed at both the professional and the amateur. Amateur practice has always been an important focus of his work marked by his interest in pedagogy and the transmission of today's music, as in L'oiseau du paradis perdu, musical tale with narrator, Continue_cc781905-5cde- 3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_?, an interactive work where sounds from video games intervene in the sound texture, and Virelangue for vocal workshop.
