The title of this very short work is taken from Sylvie Germain's book © ''Éclats de sel'', of which I have set an extract to music for solo voice under the title:

The echoes of silence.

The protagonist, facing the window of a train taking him back to his native country, is challenged by his own reflection which reproaches him for having forgotten himself despite his repeated pleas.

This title seemed to me quite appropriate to the nature of the writing request for this work.

During the unbearable confinement due to Covid 19, to ward off this situation which brought with it anxiety and uncertainty as to the future, the members of the excellent New Gates Trio offered to composers who wished it the writing of a short work of 30 seconds.

It is a distant echo of my trio for flute in C, viola and harp: Games of fabrics and desires.
