We still owe a debt to his adolescence and his illustrious predecessors.

I have the impression here that I have partly acquitted myself of it, thanks to this transcription which happens to be a “ hommage à Berlioz ”

My work has been facilitated, firstly by the manuscript where Berlioz has added a solo cornet part, and, secondly, by Liszt's brilliant piano transcription bordering at times on paraphrase, but how free and intelligent.

By revealing a love of youth that endures, perhaps I have revealed a deep feature of my own work that I leave to the sagacity of the listeners to name.
