Learning work. End of cycle level 3

Dedicated to Eve Payer and Jean Duval

Duration: about 3'.

This short work for steel-drums was requested by percussionist Eve Payer for her percussion class at the Rueil-Malmaison Conservatory.

The title of the work refers to the singular sound of this instrument characterized by a barely audible attack and the sound that unfolds after it in great harmonic richness.

By transposing the playing techniques of other percussion instruments, I have developed various unusual - but quite feasible - modes of sound production with the aim of enriching the expressive possibilities of this instrument.

Although written in an educational context, this work in its own right is intended for the concert. It requires on the part of the instrumentalist an in-depth research of attack modes, timbre, stick techniques and precision in the articulation, in order to allow this frail, fragile instrument, with an unstable sound, always at the mercy of noise and raw sound, to develop all its poetry and its rich palette of emotions.
