Entertainment - as a musical form -   is a free construction, of short proportion, for a reduced ensemble.

The character of many entertainments is to mix the light and the serious in a half-euphoric, half-grinding ambiguity rich in meaning.

My Entertainment for Strings does not escape this characteristic: everything is arranged as if the work followed the mobility of thought in an abundant and fragmentary discourse where one often passes from one motif to another by an effect of discontinuity and rupture, following the multiple ramifications of bifurcating paths.

Perhaps this is the best way to illustrate what Picasso was saying about the persistent misunderstanding about his paintings:

" To understand ! It's good to understand! … Since when is a painting a mathematical demonstration? It is intended not to explain (explain what, I wonder) but to arouse emotions in the soul of the viewer. A man must not remain indifferent in front of a work of art, that he passes by casting a careless glance... He must vibrate, be moved, created in his turn, by the imagination if not indeed… The spectator must be torn from his torpor, shaken, taken by the throat, to become aware of the world in which he lives and, for that, he must first be taken out of it…”
