The title of Affleurements speaks for itself when it comes to the cello. It is, however, a poetic guide for interpretation.

This work is like the rocks that are flush with the water by the sea. According to the waves, they appear or disappear : apparent softness, more or less threatening power hidden within.

Like all my didactic works, it is a real work in the formal sense of the term. It's my music, but simplified in order to be playable more easily by students. A great requirement is required here : the instrumentalists will have to take care to play the rhythms, articulations and modes of play in the smallest detail, with great sensitivity in order to best render the sudden changes of sound state .

It is of course quite possible to play it in a professional concert.
